Babysitters in Boston
Boston has been known for its baked beans, a famous tea party and The New Kids on the Block. While higher learning may not be something you think of when it comes to a town’s popularity, Boston is also known for its many colleges and universities. With this many students around you are sure to have your pick of babysitters.
Top 5 Boston Colleges – Find Sitters
Boston University – This four year university, with an enrollment of nearly 32,000 students, is one of the largest private universities in the US. With a school motto of ‘Learning, Virtue, Piety’, it is no wonder that their retention rate is 90%. A great motto for babysitters, too, I’d say.
Northeastern University – Founded in 1898 Northeastern University has over 27,000 students enrolled. Northeastern is well known for its co-op program, which enables students to complete their degrees in five years with four years of full time study and one year of paid full time work. Students who are geared towards this co-op work program would be great babysitter candidates.
University of Massachusetts Boston – One of five campuses of the University of Massachusetts, it is nationally known as a model of excellence for urban universities. UMass Boston was established in 1964 by State Legislature and is the only public university in the city. Another great babysitter resource.
Wentworth Institute of Technology – This is a high tech college. All rooms in the resident halls boast high speed internet access for students to use their school issued laptops. Although, Wentworth has historically been a male dominated school, the college has implemented programs and resources designed specifically towards women, to attract a more balanced ratio, which should improve your chances of finding a babysitter here as well.
Simmons College – With a student population of over 5,000, this private women’s college, established in 1899, has the first MBA program designed specifically for women. Simmons college has been recognized on numerous occasions for being a ‘green school’ with multiple sustainable products and buildings. Being an all women’s college makes this a great babysitter source.
Top 5 Boston High Schools – Find Sitters
Match Charter Public School – The goal for this charter school is for its students to have not only the knowledge to get them into college, but to succeed once there. Not only must students be proficient in traditional high school courses, but they must also take two Advanced Placement courses, and two classes from Boston University before they graduate. You are sure to find some overachieving babysitters in this bunch.
Boston Latin School – Founded in 1635, Boston Latin School is the oldest school in the US. Centered on humanities, the school’s curriculum includes a requirement of four years of foreign language study, along with four years of Latin. This public college prep school asserts that its graduates come out prepared for the world around them, both academically and socially. You are likely to find a well-rounded babysitter in this school.
Weston High School – Boston magazine rated Weston as ‘The Best Public High School in the State”, based on test scores, spending, student teacher ratio, graduation rate, percentage of students who go to college, and the number of athletic teams and clubs. The most astounding fact was the 93.4% of the schools graduates who go onto college. This would be a great resource for finding a dedicated babysitter.
Boston Arts Academy – The cities first and only high school for the visual and performing arts, Boston Arts Academy, has a student population of just over 400. With a curriculum that broadens out into dance, music, theatre, and visual arts, you may be able to get your sitter to give some lessons to your children at a reduced rate as well.
East Boston High School – With a student population of over 1,400, East Boston High School features a small learning community, where students are broken down into sections, or houses as they call them, to create a more personalized learning environment. With that many students, you are sure to find a babysitter in that crowd.
