If parents are paying for someone to care for their children while they are away, they want to be sure that their children a re getting the best care. Talking to friends on the phone could distract the sitter.
  6. Can you provide the names and phone numbers of families you have baby sat for? It is always a good idea to get the feedback of other families that have used the sitter candidate in the past.
  7. What would you do if an emergency happened and you weren’t able to reach me? Parents wants sitters that can think on their feet. If the sitter isn’t able to reach the parents, knowing how she will react will give a parent an indication of how responsible she is.
  8. What activities to you plan to do with the children? Sitters that plan to engage with children in a positive and healthy manner will have far fewer issues.
  9. What would you do if the children won’t listen to you? The answer that a parent wants to hear for this question is actually a question. A sitter shouldn’t assume on which type of discipline is appropriate. Every family is different. A conscientious babysitter will make sure to discuss this issue before actually babysitting.
  10. What is the worst experience that you have had while babysitting? Parents want to know how a sitter handled a difficult situation in the past. They also want to know what was learned, and what the sitter would do differently if it happened again.

Not everyone is qualified to be a competent babysitter. Parents that are looking for the ideal sitter need to ask the right questions. They also need to listen to how the questions are answered. A sitter that is confident with their answers is generally someone with plenty of babysitting experience.
